An established group of independent schools in Victoria Australia (near Melbourne) seeks teachers for January or sooner. The school will sponsor the teacher’s visa, and are supportive of teachers applying for permanent residency to stay long term. There are 6 campuses, both in suburban Melbourne as well as a more rural location with a lower cost of living 2 hours away.

Known as “Australia’s Sporting Capital”, the state of Victoria hosts many events including the Melbourne Cup, the Australian Open and the Australian Formula One Grand Prix. Salary, package and costs (all in AUD)

Salary: $86,000-119,000 per annum

Requirements  (including Visa related)

  • Under 40 years of age  
  • 5 years of post-qualification teaching experience in a regular classroom environment  
  • 4 years of full-time higher education study, including an approved initial primary and/or secondary teacher qualification of at least 1 year duration.  This means a 4 year B’Ed, or a 3 year degree + PGCE/M’Ed are approved, but a 3 year B’Ed alone is not.
  • Criminal record check from every country you have lived in for 12 months or longer within the last 10 years whilst over 18 years of age. This CRC must be as specified by the Department of Home Affairs and cover the entire period of residence in the country.
  • English language fluency IELTS visa requirement: Teachers who have completed experience or qualifications outside of Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA, Canada or Ireland, are required to complete an English language competency test (IELTS). Required results in the Academic module: Speaking – 8.0, Listening – 8.0, Reading – 7.0, Writing – 7.0. Please note teachers must reach the required scores for each skill area regardless of their overall score. Online test results are not accepted. These scores are quite high and are typically only achievable by native-level English speakers.
  • Because of the cost of living, it’s not suited to teachers with dependent children unless you have another significant source of income. For instance, a teaching couple with 1 child should be able to live comfortably.
