US - FBI Checks

Why is it needed? Most schools and many countries require an up to date criminal check as a condition of employment but getting an FBI check in the US can take months when going direct. TEFL Certification
Who is it for? Anyone!
What is it? Discounts on courses for TEFL- Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and courses on techniques for teaching English Language Learners.
Why is it needed? You will almost certainly encounter children who are learning English as a foreign language when teaching abroad, no matter what subject you teach. Taking a course can help you learn tips and tricks for those who are acquiring English.
Additionally, if your partner is accompanying you abroad, having a TEFL certificate may help them to find English teaching and tutoring jobs abroad.
Note that TEFL certificates are not a substitute for K-12 teacher certification in the US or Canada, QTS in the UK or primary/secondary school registration in Ireland, Australia or New Zealand. They are not equivalent to a Bachelors or Masters of Education or a PGCE/HDE.
Some countries are now requiring all international teachers to have a TEFL certificate. If this the case for you , make sure you know how many hours you need, and what are the requirements for observed teaching practice (if any) before picking a course to make sure it will be acceptable.
