Regional Info:
Victoria is Australia's second smallest state - but second most populated state after NSW - located in the southeastern part of the country. Bordered by NSW to its north and South Australia to is west, Tasmania is to the south just across the Bass Strait. The majority of Victoria's 6.7 million population live in the City of Melbourne (Australia's second largest city, home to about 5.3 million people). Melbourne is known for many things, including a lively cosmopolitan, culturally diverse population (with more than 50% having been either born overseas or having at least one parent who was born overseas), a vibrant music and arts scene, popular cafe and coffee culture, excellent shopping, stunning architecture and a thriving restaurant scene. Indeed, Victoria as a whole is famous for its sensational food and wine, its vineyards and its sports (that include but are not limited to AFL, Rugby League, Cricket and, of course, horse racing with the world-famous Melbourne Cup held each November). Victoria is also a state of great beauty with a varied climate and landscape that includes mountains, ski fields, deserts, beaches, rolling hills, vineyards, stunning coastal drives (of course, the Great Ocean Road) and an abundance of flora and fauna (including the penguins at St Kilda and Philip Island).
