Regional Info:
Although Yangon is no longer the capital of Myanmar, with approximately 5 million people, it is the largest and perhaps, most important, city in the country. Once under British rule, this former British Colonial Capital is home to a number of Colonial period buildings - which are on the Yangon City Heritage List of protected buildings and structures - situated in attractive leafy avenues. The city is a cosmopolitan mix of British, Burmese, Chinese and Indian influences and with the interesting architecture and history (and relatively few high-rise buildings - certainly not more than 10 storey's high) it is a wistful, fascinating, safe and rapidly emerging country. With an international airport close by and rail and road links to the rest of the country there is ample opportunity to travel both within and outside of the country on weekends and during holidays. Within the city itself there are sporting events, parks, pagodas, museums, national parks, gardens markets, a theatre, planetarium and of course the architecture to study and enjoy. Yangon has a tropical climate with a distinctive wet and dry season and year round warm temperatures. It can be a challenging city with lots of traffice, congestion and everything that goes hand in hand with a city in the middle of massive growth, but ultimiately it is an exciting city with very friendly and hospitable locals. NOW is the perfect time to go to Myamar. For more information on Myanmar please see http://www.edvectus.com/Content/Documents/myanmar.pdf
