Regional Info:
Nonthaburi is part of the greater Bangkok metropolitan area and north of the city. It's a quieter location with a small but growing expat community compared to the busy centre of Bangkok and offers a more suburban atmosphere for expats who choose to live there whilst still being well-connected to Bangkok, making it easy to access the city's amenities, work, and entertainment. The transportation options include the MRT (Metro), buses, and ferries along the Chao Phraya River. However, traffic can be heavy at times, especially during rush hour, so plan accordingly. Nonthaburi tends to have a lower cost of living compared to central Bangkok. Housing, food, and transportation are generally more affordable, although prices can vary depending on where you choose to live. The area offers a range of housing options, from modern condos to traditional Thai houses. The suburbs of Nonthaburi are quieter and more spacious compared to the city center, making it ideal for families or those seeking more room at a lower price, although newer condos and developments in popular areas can be pricier. The area has a more laid-back, residential feel compared to central Bangkok, with green spaces, parks, and a slower pace of life. Nonthaburi is also close to several cultural sites, such as the famous **Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat**, offering a more authentic Thai experience. Whilst less cosmopolitan than the heart of Bangkok, there is a wide variety of food options, from street food to international restaurants. While it may not have the same extensive variety as central Bangkok, you’ll still find plenty of options. Shopping malls like CentralPlaza WestGate and The Mall Ngamwongwan provide everything you need, including international supermarkets. If you enjoy a quieter, more peaceful lifestyle with easy access to Bangkok's amenities, Nonthaburi might be perfect for you. It’s great for those who don’t mind being a bit removed from the action but still want to be close enough to enjoy the benefits of living in a major city.
