Regional Info:
The school is located 40 minutes West of the CBD of Jakarta. There is plenty to do and see within this lively - and busy - city and for an easy weekend escape there are the Thousand Islands within easy reach. This chain of 110 islands is just off the north coast of Jakarta with the closest being just 20 minutes by speedboat. 36 of these islands may be used for recreation; the rest are either home to resorts, historic parks, are privately owned or are not open to the public. Others are either uninhabited or support a fishing village. Indonesia is the world's 4th most populated country and consists of a collection of over 18,000 islands only one third of which are inhabited. Incredibly diverse in language and culture, each island has a different personality and ethnic makeup. About 80% of the population are Muslim with the remaining a mix of Protestant, Catholic, Hindu and Buddhist. From the sky scrapers of Jakarta to the serene island of Kanawa (where the photo above was shot) Indonesia is a very hard country to categorise. Indonesia is a warm place - with constant temperatures throughout the year. There is a wet season and a dry season, however, to provide a bit of variety. When you are in Indonesia you will notice a very low cost of living in most places (which makes the salaries seem low but the savings can be high regardless), and a wealth of places to visit. Island hopping is a major past time. You can visit the idyllic Gili Island beaches, see the dragons of Komodo island, feed orangutans at the sanctuary, party in Bali and surf/snorkel/dive/swim/sail to your hearts content from almost anywhere. The list is really too vast to even try to do it justice. https://www.expatistan.com/cost-of-living/comparison/london/jakarta
